Classic™ Hollow Decking by Green Plank is designed for customers who want the warm, familiar appearance of real timber together with the practical advantages of modern Wood Plastic Composite (WPC).
With its natural wood-inspired surface, high wood-fibre content and carefully selected colours, Classic™ creates a terrace that feels warmer and more authentic than a conventional plastic-looking deck.
Its intelligently engineered hollow profile with oval internal chambers reduces unnecessary material and weight compared with an equivalent solid profile, making the boards easier to handle, transport and install while maintaining the structural performance required for their intended application.
The result is a practical, long-life Wood Plastic decking system developed for private terraces, balconies, residential projects, holiday homes, hotels, restaurants and other outdoor spaces.
Many homeowners still prefer the warm appearance of timber. The challenge is that traditional wood can require regular cleaning, oiling, staining or painting to maintain its appearance.
Classic™ Hollow has been developed to offer another approach.
The surface is designed to recreate the natural character of timber while providing the everyday advantages of Wood Plastic Composite decking.
Rather than looking excessively uniform or artificial, Classic™ is designed with a more natural visual character, making it an attractive choice for customers who want a wood-look composite deck without the same maintenance routine associated with conventional timber.
One of the most important features of Classic™ is its carefully engineered hollow construction.
Instead of manufacturing the entire cross-section as a solid mass, the profile incorporates oval internal chambers. This reduces material usage and makes the board lighter than a comparable solid Wood Plastic Composite profile.
The lower weight offers practical advantages throughout the supply and installation process:
This makes Classic™ particularly attractive when customers want the benefits of Wood Plastic decking without the additional weight of a fully solid profile.
The internal geometry of a hollow decking board is important, particularly in climates where rain, snow, freezing temperatures and repeated moisture exposure are common.
Classic™ uses oval internal chambers as part of its engineered hollow profile.
The chamber geometry provides internal space and is designed with moisture and drainage considerations in mind. However, as with any hollow outdoor profile, standing water should not be deliberately trapped inside the board.
Correct installation is therefore essential. The terrace should be constructed so that rainwater can drain away effectively and water is not allowed to remain unnecessarily inside or around the decking system.
This is particularly important in Nordic climates, where trapped moisture combined with freezing conditions can place additional stress on outdoor building materials.
For Classic™ Hollow Decking, correct drainage is an important part of the installation.
The decking should be installed with an appropriate fall in the direction of drainage. Where the applicable Classic™ installation specification calls for it, a minimum slope of approximately 1 mm per linear metre should be maintained to encourage water to move away from the terrace rather than remain trapped around the boards.
Drainage openings and hollow profile ends should not be unnecessarily blocked where doing so would interfere with the designed drainage path.
Always follow the current Green Plank installation instructions for the exact Classic™ profile, substructure and project conditions.
Classic™ is based on a carefully developed Wood Plastic Composite formulation that, depending on the specific product specification, can contain up to approximately 70–75% beech hardwood fibre.
The hardwood fibre is combined with premium-grade HDPE or selected European-sourced recycled HDPE (rHDPE), together with carefully selected functional additives from established suppliers in Europe or the USA.
The high wood-fibre content contributes to the stiffness, solid feel and natural character of the finished Wood Plastic decking board.
The polymer matrix binds the wood fibres, while coupling agents, UV stabilisers, antioxidants, pigments and processing aids support the performance and processing of the finished profile.
The philosophy behind Classic™ is straightforward: Wood Plastic decking does not have to look like plastic.
By combining a high proportion of natural wood fibre with carefully selected colours and a wood-inspired surface, Classic™ creates a warmer and more familiar appearance.
After exposure to natural sunlight and outdoor weather, the decking can undergo a subtle and natural colour evolution.
This should not be confused with uncontrolled fading. A gentle development in colour is part of the natural character of an uncapped wood-rich composite and can help the surface develop a more authentic, timber-like appearance.
Just as real timber changes slightly after being installed outdoors, Classic™ is designed to develop its own natural character while retaining the practical advantages of Wood Plastic Composite.
A well-designed terrace should also be straightforward to install.
Classic™ is designed for installation using compatible plastic or steel clips together with suitable screws.
The concealed clip system helps avoid unnecessary visible screw heads across the main walking surface and creates a cleaner, more professional finished appearance.
Clips and screws are manufactured in Europe and are selected to work with the Green Plank decking system.
For installers, this provides a practical and repeatable installation method. For homeowners and project customers, it creates a more refined finished terrace.
At Green Plank, we believe a premium building product should be transparent about what goes into it.
Classic™ is therefore based on a controlled supply chain with 100% traceability of the declared raw materials.
This provides greater transparency regarding the origin of the wood fibre, polymer and functional additives used in the Wood Plastic Composite formulation.
For architects, developers, contractors, distributors and building-material merchants, this traceability provides a stronger basis for evaluating and specifying materials for long-term projects.
Classic™ is developed with a focus on efficient use of materials, long service life, raw-material traceability and a European-oriented supply chain.
The hollow profile itself also uses material efficiently by placing material where it is structurally needed rather than simply producing a heavier solid cross-section.
European-sourced materials where specified, selected European recycled HDPE and European-made installation components can contribute to a lower CO₂ footprint compared with relevant alternatives, where supported by applicable environmental documentation.
Environmental performance should always be evaluated using appropriate product data rather than a single marketing statement. Material origin, recycled content, transport, product weight, expected lifetime, maintenance and replacement cycles can all influence the overall environmental impact.
Nordic weather can be demanding on any outdoor building material.
During its service life, a terrace may experience rain, snow, frost, moisture, summer sun, cold winters and repeated temperature changes.
Classic™ Wood Plastic Composite decking is developed with these conditions in mind.
The combination of hardwood fibre, HDPE, selected additives, hollow profile geometry and appropriate installation makes Classic™ particularly relevant for Scandinavian and Northern European outdoor environments.
It is a decking system designed for real outdoor living – not simply to look attractive in a showroom.
A terrace should be comfortable and practical as well as attractive.
The Classic™ surface is therefore designed with a strong focus on good slip resistance under normal outdoor conditions.
This is especially important in Nordic environments, where rain, moisture and rapidly changing weather conditions are part of everyday outdoor life.
The combination of surface texture and material formulation makes Classic™ an interesting Wood Plastic decking solution for private terraces as well as residential and professional outdoor applications.
Where a project requires a specific slip-resistance classification or compliance with a particular testing standard, the applicable test documentation for the exact Classic™ profile should always be consulted.
Classic™ is designed for everyday outdoor life.
Leaves, dirt, rain, food, drinks, outdoor furniture, children and pets are all normal parts of using a terrace.
The decking is therefore designed with an easy-to-clean, low-maintenance surface.
Routine cleaning helps keep the boards attractive without the recurring painting, staining or oiling commonly associated with traditional timber decking.
This makes Classic™ an appealing choice for homeowners who want the character of wood together with the practical advantages of modern Wood Plastic Composite decking.
Outdoor architecture should not be restricted to one or two standard decking colours.
Classic™ is available in 5 carefully selected standard colours designed to complement a broad range of contemporary and traditional architecture.
For qualifying architectural and project orders, Classic™ can also be produced in 4 additional colours, providing up to 9 colour possibilities.
This gives architects and designers greater freedom to coordinate the Wood Plastic decking with façades, windows, roofing, outdoor furniture, landscaping and the overall architectural theme.
Whether a project calls for warm timber tones, understated natural shades or a contemporary architectural colour, Classic™ provides greater flexibility to create a coordinated outdoor environment.
The Classic™ hollow profile is engineered to balance lower weight with the structural requirements of its intended application.
Depending on the specific profile, application, loading conditions and installation requirements, selected Classic™ systems can be designed for support spacing of up to 400 mm c/c.
Correct joist spacing is particularly important with hollow Wood Plastic Composite decking. Increasing the distance beyond the approved specification can increase deflection and place unnecessary stress on the profile.
The current Green Plank technical specification and installation instructions for the exact Classic™ profile must therefore always take precedence.
A terrace should not only look good on the day it is installed. It should be developed for years of outdoor use.
Classic™ is designed as a long-life Wood Plastic Composite decking system with emphasis on material quality, efficient profile design, easy maintenance and long-term outdoor performance.
Depending on the specific Classic™ product, application, correct installation and applicable warranty conditions, selected systems may be offered with a warranty of up to 20 years.
The high wood-fibre content, controlled HDPE formulation, selected additives, engineered oval-chamber profile and compatible installation components work together to create a practical Wood Plastic product designed for long service life.
A solid decking profile is not automatically the best solution for every project.
Classic™ demonstrates how a carefully engineered hollow Wood Plastic profile can provide a practical alternative when lower weight, efficient material use and straightforward handling are important.
The oval chamber design reduces unnecessary internal material while maintaining an engineered cross-section for its intended loading and support spacing.
For residential terraces and many other suitable applications, this can provide an excellent balance between weight, performance, appearance, installation and cost efficiency.
The important point is not simply whether a WPC board is hollow or solid. What matters is how the complete profile has been engineered, what materials are used, the approved joist spacing, the installation method and whether the product is used for the application for which it was designed.
Classic™ has been developed for customers who still want their terrace to feel connected to natural timber.
The high wood-fibre content, carefully developed surface and subtle natural colour evolution give the decking a warmer character than a purely synthetic outdoor surface.
At the same time, the Wood Plastic Composite construction provides practical advantages: easier maintenance, concealed installation, engineered profile geometry and no need for routine oiling or painting.
It is this balance that defines Classic™ – the familiar character of wood combined with the practical advantages of modern Wood Plastic technology.
Classic™ Hollow Decking is suitable for a wide range of outdoor environments where appearance, practical installation, lower profile weight and easy maintenance are important.
Classic™ Hollow Decking offers a practical combination of natural wood appearance, high wood-fibre content, lower profile weight, engineered oval chambers, concealed installation, easy maintenance and performance developed for Nordic outdoor conditions.
Whether you are a homeowner, architect, landscape designer, contractor, property developer, distributor, building-material merchant or professional buyer, Classic™ provides an attractive alternative to traditional timber and heavier solid composite decking.
